ISBN: 0000000002737

An elegant presentation of the costumes of the famous artist and designer of the Art Deco movement, Erté (pseudonym of Romain de Tirtoff), designed and published by Franco Maria Ricci. A total of seventy-five colour illustrations display his most highly regarded works. The images, distinguished by their irreverence and glamour, are accompanied by excerpts from his memoirs and a text by the prominent French art critic Roland Barthes. The copy, bound in gold-engraved cloth, is composed on handmade paper purpose manufactured by Pietro Milani Paper Industries. Erté was an Art Deco artist, renowned in the world of graphic arts, who adopted the name Erté as an acronym for the French pronunciation of his initials, R.T. His work in fashion design began even before the First World War, including costumes for Anna Pavlova, Sarah Bernhardt, and the notorious Mata Hari but he would only consolidate his career following work for the theatre and covers for magazines such as Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. This book will lend readers a taste of the elegance of Erté's creations as they voyage through the cosmopolitanism of the 1920s and 1930s.
