Livraria Lello edits a book in honor of the medical profession

The book “A Arte Médica em Portugal no Segundo Milénio” will be presented on September 22 at 7:30 pm, in a conversation between the author, Francisco do Carmo Pacheco, and António Maia Gonçalves, Medical Director of Unilabs and specialist in Internal Medicine and Intensive Care.

The edition and sale of the work by Livraria Lello (with the proceeds being totally donated), are part of a tribute campaign to the health professionals who were on the front line during the COVID-19 pandemic and represent another action of social responsibility. A symbolic way to close this chapter with the community, after, in 2020, having promoted the 1st Book Drive-Thru in the world - donating more than 10 thousand books, during the first confinement due to COVID-19 – and the “Quarantine Stories” literature competition – one of the most participated literary prizes ever in the world, with more than 5600 applications, from 39 countries.

“Livraria Lello will offer 200 copies of the book, distributed by the libraries of the main Faculties of Medicine in the country, and other institutions in the health area, thus promoting the transmission of knowledge between such an experienced doctor and the health professionals of the future”, he adds. the administrator of Livraria Lello, Aurora Pedro Pinto. The first offer will take place, symbolically, on the day of the event, to the directors of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto and the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Porto.

According to Miguel Guimarães, Chairman of the Ordem dos Médicos, in the preface to the work published by Livraria Lello, “specialty by specialty, A Arte Médica em Portugal no Segundo Milénio allows us to know the difficulties and advances and setbacks suffered, as well as the great achievements, giving us a very interesting view of how, with the new knowledge, the pieces of the puzzle that is the human body were put together […]”.

From the 22nd, the book will be on sale at Livraria Lello, both physically and on its website [www.livrarialello.pt/en]. The author will offer 80% of the profit obtained from these sales to Cáritas Diocesana do Porto.
