ENTRANCE TO LIVRARIA LELLO

“José Saramago and Visual Arts” at Livraria Lello

José Saramago

Alongside the celebrations of José Saramago's Centenary, Livraria Lello will honor the author's relationship with Art.

In a conversation that starts from the exhibition “Why? Contemporary art in dialogue with José Saramago’s thoughts”, Ana Matos, granddaughter of the author and curator of the exhibition, and Emília Ferreira, director of the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC), trace lines of the bonding between José Saramago and the visual arts.

The exhibition in MNAC features 32 works of art by 29 Portuguese artists, produced between 1895 and 2016. The selection of works started from the identification of a set of recurring and fundamental themes of José Saramago’s thoughts. Thus, the exhibition space is organized around four major themes: Human rights; Alterity and identity; Sustainability; Memory and Word.

The event is scheduled for 9:00 pm on November 24th and has free entry, upon prior registration.

It will also be possible to watch the event livestreaming, on our Facebook page or Livraria Lello's Youtube channel!
