Alternative Nobel Prize has presented 2018 shortlist

Thursday, September 6, 2018

Haruki Mrakami, Kim Thúy, Maryse Condé and Neil Gaiman are on the final list for alternative Nobel Prize 2018. After the shocking news about literature Nobel commission last year, there are an independent group to select the “alternative” Nobel Prize in Swedish academy. The winner will be announced in October 12.

After a brief public’s voting phase, the ephemeral commission elected four names for the shortlist. The criteria for this final list of four writers was also completed with half of them were woman. So they presented Haruki Murakami, Kim Thúy, Maryse Condé and Neil Gaiman.

Neil Gaiman has an enormous cult collection on his shelter. The Sandman, Coraline or The Stardust make him an “easy” target for Hollywood industry. Also from north-America and candidate to this alternative literature prize are the Vietnam writer Kim Thúy with bestsellers like Ru or Man.

But the principal candidate, and many times pointed to (usual) Nobel Prize, is the Japanese Haruki Murakami. Norwegian Wood or Kafka on the shore are some of most known books. But on the other side is a writer who don’t have any book translated to Portuguese language, such as Desirada, Segu, Crossing the Mangrove e Who Slashed Celanire's Throat?, Maryse Condé.

The winner of this Literature Prize, alternative to Nobel, will be announced on October 12 and the awards ceremony is in December 2. The organizer commission will be dissolved after this day.
